Subject: News from the University Church of St Mary the Virgin

Introduction

We welcome Becca McDonnell and Beth and Josh Whitnall, ordinands from Ripon College Cuddesdon, who will be on placement with us until the end of the academic year.

A warm hello to everyone at University Church, my name is Becca McDonnell and I am spending this academic year on placement with you all. I am currently in my first year at Ripon College Cuddesdon, where I am training ready for ordination in the Church of England. I moved here from Salisbury with my husband Stewart and our two boys Cullin, 4 and Murdo, 1. Although we have lived in Salisbury for the past 9 years I actually grew up close to Oxford and much of my close family still live here, so it’s nice to be back. My favourite area of study is liturgy, ritual and performance, and I have spent the last few years between studies, children, working for the Trussell Trust and helping with children’s worship and activities at my sending Church. Although restrictions have meant I haven’t been able to spend much time with you yet, I am looking forward to opportunities to be with you in worship both virtually and in person.

I leave you with prayers for health, hope and strength at this difficult time, Becca.

My name is Beth Whitnall and I am married to Josh. We are both first year ordinands at Ripon College, Cuddesdon. We are expecting our first baby in April and we enjoy long walks in the countryside with our two beagles!

Prior to beginning my ordination training, I worked with pre-school aged children in the Diocese of Norwich and have a real passion for seeing children come to know God!

I’m excited to experience lots of different types of worship during my time at college and my placement at University Church.

A warm welcome to the University Church from all of us.
