This Sunday @ UCC: Start Here - Leddy Hammock
|
|
Inspired by lyrics by Jana Stanfield and Jan Garrett:
“Show me the way to walk in faith every step every day.
When I'm unsure which path to take, show me the way, show me the way.
Every day is a new clean slate on which I can draw, on which I can paint
What my soul wants to see, what my soul wants to be. Show me the way.
Show me the way to walk in faith every step every day.
Show me which path to take. Show me the way.” |

| | Concert: Sloan Wainwright
|
| | Tue, Apr 26 7:00 PM Peace Chapel
Defying
standard categorization, singer/songwriter Sloan Wainwright,
consistently demonstrates her easy command of a variety of American
musical styles — pop, folk, jazz and blues — held together by the
melodious tone of her rich contralto, with the end result being a unique
and soulful hybrid.
Her family tree (brother and folk-music
luminary Loudon Wainwright, nephew Rufus Wainwright, nieces Martha
Wainwright and Lucy Wainwright Roche) reads like a who’s who of
contemporary folk music. Sloan’s incredible gift is not only her unique
songwriting ability but also her dramatically voiced rendition of
original songs.
“She’s folk influenced, but the real star here is
her voice. Warm and smoky and smooth, it makes her earthy, ominous
lyrics seem all the more intense.”
With a solid and impressive
discography of 7 original CD releases to her credit, Sloan continues to
write, sing and perform live.In addition, Sloan has written numerous
musical compositions for theater and dance and teaches at many of the
best-known master songwriter series and workshops. Sloan’s open spirit
and first-hand experience is welcome –year after year– in the musical
classrooms of such prestigious song camps as Richard Thompson’s Frets
and Refrains, The Swannanoa Gathering, Summersongs, Wintersongs, and
WUMB Radio’s Summer Acoustic Music Week (SAMW), Winter Acoustic Music
Weekend (WAMW) Moab Folk Camp and Cape Cod Songwriters Retreat.

| | | | | | The Gulf Oil Spill happened in April of 2010.
Slightly more than a year after, we found it necessary, as did the UU Church across the street, to return to one Sunday service after having had two services each Sunday for more than 30 years.
A few years ago, our Board of Directors at that time advised that a claim regarding BP Oil be filed with an attorney.
We do not know if there will be any results of that claim or not. But at this time, we are asking that if anyone here has been a supporter of this ministry for more than five years, and feels that his/her attendance, contributions, were impacted because his or her own finances were impacted, directly or indirectly, by the Gulf Oil Spill, s/he should definitely share the personal account with me or Russ in person, on the phone, or by mail or email asap.

| | | | Do you doubt that your thoughts and words of divine love can have equal power I your own life and affairs? I once had a simple family experience that convinced me that our thoughts of love do reach others more quickly and completely than we sometimes realize. One warm spring day I was in my study, trying to finish an article on love, when my teenage son came in. He . . . was hungry and anxious to get home.
When I explained that I was trying to complete an article and would finish in a few minutes, he quietly left. Soon I thought I heard the study door open again, but since things at once became quiet, I did not turn to investigate. Some minutes later, when I had completed my work, I realized that my son had quietly returned and placed two red roses on my desk from the nearby rose garden. Without a word he had then let, to wait patiently for me. He had not known I was working on an article on love. Never before had he brought me flowers, but at that moment he seemed attuned to the very ideas I was dwelling on in the article, and he lovingly responded.”

Your Weekly Prosperity Affirmation: WHEN I DWELL ON IDEAS OF LOVE, MY WORLD LOVINGLY RESPONDS. THANK YOU, GOD!
