This Sunday @ UCC: Attention Earth - Leddy Hammock
|
|
In celebration of Earth Day this week, we echo the spirit of one of the seven principles of our neighbors, the Unitarian Universalists of Clearwater:
We bless and “respect the amazing interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.”
“Dream of a day when we can live in communion, Dream of a time when we can give without fear. Awaken a way to get all of us working together And know that the time when the earth can be peaceful is near. Know that our thoughts and our actions are honest and clear. Know that the people on earth will be safe from all fear. Know that the time when the earth can be peaceful is here.” – David Roth, in “Earth.” |

| | Concert: Sloan Wainwright
|
| | Tue, Apr 26 7:00 PM Peace Chapel
Defying standard categorization, singer/songwriter Sloan Wainwright, consistently demonstrates her easy command of a variety of American musical styles — pop, folk, jazz and blues — held together by the melodious tone of her rich contralto, with the end result being a unique and soulful hybrid.
Her family tree (brother and folk-music luminary Loudon Wainwright, nephew Rufus Wainwright, nieces Martha Wainwright and Lucy Wainwright Roche) reads like a who’s who of contemporary folk music. Sloan’s incredible gift is not only her unique songwriting ability but also her dramatically voiced rendition of original songs.
“She’s folk influenced, but the real star here is her voice. Warm and smoky and smooth, it makes her earthy, ominous lyrics seem all the more intense.”
With a solid and impressive discography of 7 original CD releases to her credit, Sloan continues to write, sing and perform live.In addition, Sloan has written numerous musical compositions for theater and dance and teaches at many of the best-known master songwriter series and workshops. Sloan’s open spirit and first-hand experience is welcome –year after year– in the musical classrooms of such prestigious song camps as Richard Thompson’s Frets and Refrains, The Swannanoa Gathering, Summersongs, Wintersongs, and WUMB Radio’s Summer Acoustic Music Week (SAMW), Winter Acoustic Music Weekend (WAMW) Moab Folk Camp and Cape Cod Songwriters Retreat.

| | | | | | The Gulf Oil Spill happened in April of 2010.
Slightly more than a year after, we found it necessary, as did the UU Church across the street, to return to one Sunday service after having had two services each Sunday for more than 30 years.
A few years ago, our Board of Directors at that time advised that a claim regarding BP Oil be filed with an attorney.
We do not know if there will be any results of that claim or not. But at this time, we are asking that if anyone here has been a supporter of this ministry for more than five years, and feels that his/her attendance, contributions, were impacted because his or her own finances were impacted, directly or indirectly, by the Gulf Oil Spill, s/he should definitely share the personal account with me or Russ in person, on the phone, or by mail or email asap.

| | | | “A businesswoman related [her] experience concerning the power of love in her marriage, which had been unhappy for sometime. There had been many quarrels – much bickering, tension, inharmony. One night when there had been a prolonged and bitter quarrel, the woman thought: ‘We cannot goon. This inharmony is affecting our health, our business success, and our marriage. There must be a way out.’
She began looking for something to read that might give her a sense of peace and hope, and she found these words: ‘LOVE MELTS SITUATIONS THAT SEEM IMPOSSIBLE.’ Over and over she said ‘YES, IT IS TRUE. LOVE MELTS SITUATIONS THAT SEEM IMPOSSIBLE.’
Formerly, reconciliation had come slowly and painstakingly after each quarrel. But as she continued dwelling on this statement of love, the inharmony and misunderstanding faded almost at once. That proved to be this couple’s last bitter quarrel. Since that time, whenever inharmony has seemed near, she has quickly affirmed, ‘LOVE MELTS SITUATIONS THAT SEEM IMPOSSIBLE’; always this has cleared the air and harmony has been reestablished.”*
*It is important to note here again that results will vary according to the understanding faith of individuals. However, persistently declaring Divine Love will never fail to bring about the highest good for all concerned. In any case, this affirmation works!
