We Are So Grateful! |
| | | | | We continue working to find a local architect and engineer that can work with us to keep the project moving forward.
We remain very grateful for the steadfast faith of all those whose gifts of
love and substance sustain our Church during this time of transition.
We are very glad to welcome old friends and new friends on Sundays on our
home campus. Watch this space as we give thanks together that God is clearing the way for us to go forward.
Our
beautiful new Church Home is being built for us in wisdom, love, and
divine timing and we are ready to receive it!

Heart of the House - Dr Jo (Part I) |
| Dr. Peggy Joanne Rowe was born in “Frog Hollow” Augusta, Georgia, to a family living in a Georgia “‘Dogtrot” style house (with a central breezeway for natural cooling) and a porch across the front of the house. The large eat-in kitchen was heated by a Franklin Stove and the milkman used a horse-drawn wagon. Jo and her brother, Allen, attended the Second Baptist Church on Sunday mornings and Vacation Bible School. As a child during WW II, she remembers planes flying overhead in squads of twenty-five or more, ration stamps (for food and gas) and castor oil as an all-purpose remedy along with wet tobacco to dab on wasp stings. Household chores, bike rides and chores, kite flying, and games of marbles all made for happy times.
Jo’s Dad worked for Georgia & Florida Railroad; her Mother worked for the Hollingsworth Candy Company and then as a seamstress at Fort Gordon for the soldiers. Her Uncle Arthur owned a service station, where Jo pumped gas as a teen. In elementary school, she and her childhood friend, LaVerne Hughes, were the only two females on the school baseball team. At Harriett Tubman Jr High, Dr. Jo was a member of the girls’ basketball and softball teams (that team won the city championship two years in a row!).
After high school graduation, Jo attended Georgia State College for Women (now known as Georgia State College and University) in Milledgeville, majoring in Health, Physical Education & Recreation. There, Jo became a National Tennis Official, Basketball Official, and Lifetime Fitness Instructor. She was a dorm floor chaplain, in charge of nightly prayer services. During the summers for three years, she was a camp counselor and tennis instructor at Camp Woodlands, Maine, a Jewish-owned camp for girls. She did her student teaching at College Park High School in Atlanta and volunteered with selection of cheerleaders at several local high schools.
In the fall off 1961, Jo attended the University of Tennessee/Knoxville on a graduate scholarship at Webb High School, teaching Phys Ed., living in the freshman dorm as a counselor. She completed her thesis in the Smoky Mountains, preparing for exams. After graduation, she was hired at Berry College, Mt. Berry, Georgia, and coached women’s basketball. She worked with colleagues to establish the Division of Girls’ and Women’s Sports. She was named Basketball “Coach of the Year” two years; her record was 125 wins and only 25 losses.
In 1965, Jo was selected out of 200 candidates to be trained by the John F. Kennedy Foundation’s new program to train teachers in Physical Education to work with special needs students. She worked with various organizations in Rome, GA to establish a summer camp for children with Cerebral Palsy. At SMU, the Wade Trophy was named after Jo’s roommate, Margaret Wade, also a basketball coach. Her Dept. Chair at Mt. Berry nominated Jo for a federally funded program for Adapted Physical education to begin in 1973 at Peabody College, Nashville, TN. In this program, students took classes and also did field assignments, working with autistic students and later with the Special Olympics summer program. After graduating with her Ed.Science degree, Jo was awarded a federally-funded scholarship to the Adapted Phys Ed Program at Texas Woman’s University, Denton, TX. She was the first doctoral candidate in that program, taking regular courses with other doctoral students in various programs in Physical education. During her three years at TWI, she developed motor skills programs for children in the Denton area, held workshops for Elementary School teachers in Denton and surrounding towns, and served on a team with Medical School students assessing special needs. She mentored students in the Master’s program in Adapted Phys. Ed. At the same time, Jo officiated at all the home games for the women’s basketball team and served as umpire for the softball team. In 1975, Jo directed a program for children with special needs in Euless, TX. For her dissertation, she researched playing movements using a Lind Climber (a new piece of equipment at the time). In 1976, she taught in Ft. Worth, TX, and finished up her dissertation. Jo led all the graduates into the auditorium and was the last to receive her diploma. Standing at the threshold of new beginnings, Dr. Joe wondered, “What’s next, God?”

Wednesday Evening Spiritual Treatment |
|
Wednesdays
7:00-7:30 PM
Teach Us to Pray was written by Charles Fillmore (Cofounder of the Unity Movement) and his second wife, Cora (a leader in Silent Unity and in Unity's Correspondence School and a beloved teacher of prayer). Cora Fillmore contributed a large number of the affirmations, lesson plans, and instructional chapters in this volume. As we follow the lessons together, we see that prayer is not begging, but aligning our thoughts with God's ideas. Leddy has compiled a unique series of twelve prayer services, embodying the essence of each of the twelve chapters of this fascinating study.
Join Leddy and experience the deep thoughts of Charles and Cora Fillmore every Wednesday evening through October.
Come, let us pray together! |

Upcoming Interfaith Gatherings All Are Welcome & Encouraged to Attend |
| | | On October 23rd, the Jewish Federation of Florida's Gulf Coast will be showing the movie “Tragic Awakening” at Temple Ahavat Shalom in Palm Harbor.
The movie is a new look at the oldest hatred, a, post-October 7th film rethinking antisemitism’s roots, turning hatred into strength for Jewish identity and Western values.
The JFFGC is trying to get as many folks – Jewish or not – to see this important movie, so they are not charging anything to attend.

"Love is not only one of joy and peace and beauty. It is also the greatest protection you can ever have. If you are armed and fortified with love and a sense of oneness with God’s good, everywhere, and if you are willing to be guided always by the little voice within, you will always be protected.
The little voice within will make sure that you are in the right place at the right time, and the glow of love from within will surround you with an aura that is greater than any danger that can ever threaten you.... It will transform a threat into a blessing for all concerned. It will provide whatever is the best and most effective defense under the circumstances" --Winifred Hausmann, Love-Powered Living. |

OUR WEEKLY AFFIRMATION:
"MY INNER VOICE PROTECTS ME AND GUIDES ME ALWAYS TO THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME IN ORDER TO EXPRESS A BLESSING."
THANK YOU, GOD! |
