There are moments in history when it becomes especially clear why an institution like the Transnational Institute is needed.
We are living through one of those moments.
War and militarisation are expanding. Authoritarianism is gaining ground. Climate breakdown is accelerating. Corporate and technological power is becoming ever more concentrated. Across the world, democracy and the space for people to organise are under pressure.
In times like these, we need places where people can connect struggles, challenge powerful interests and build alternatives from the bottom up. TNI has provided a physical and intellectual home for international movements, connecting people across borders and helping turn knowledge, solidarity and collective action into real change.
This week marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of TNI Director Orlando Letelier, murdered by agents of the Chilean dictatorship alongside his colleague Ronni Moffitt. Their courage, and the risks taken by those who challenge power, remain part of TNI’s history.
Today, people around the world continue to take those risks, organising, resisting and building alternatives.
That is why we need your solidarity now. TNI is under serious financial pressure and we are having to make deep cuts to the institute, even as the need for this work has never been greater.
