Week 7 of Summer Reading!

It's the seventh week of summer reading! We're up to 268 adult summer readers, with a total of 1903 books finished. With several weeks to go, we're closing on on two thousand books!

The Book Worms have officially crossed he finished line, unlocking cookies AND ice cream toppings for everyone at the Reader's Retreat! Other unlocked prizes include special limited edition bookmarks and pins (which you can pick up at the Adult Reference Desk), mocktails at our Reader's Retreat at the end of August, and Meet Your Team events. Don't forget to register for events!

Boost Your Reading

Is your reading loosing steam? At halfway through summer reading, that's completely normal! Here are some tried-and-true ways to boost your reading through the summer slump.

Find something new to read. Whether your TBR list is empty or just full of books that aren't sparking your interest, sometimes the answer is to dive into a good booklist or two (or three, or five...) So take a look at Berlin-Peck's booklist page or one of these great lists:

Give yourself permission to stop reading. You have a TBR (to be read) list, but what about your DNF (did not finish) list? If your current read is uninspiring, you can always set it aside for later—or never. And when you give yourself permission to stop reading, starting a new book is much easier.

Carry a book everywhere. Impractical? Not when you embrace ebooks and audiobooks! While they'll never replace a physical book, these digital options are perfect when you're on the go—and nothing makes chores more interesting than an audiobook.
- Get ebooks and audiobooks with your library card

Try something new. Summer reading is a great time to try out new types of books. Remember—if it's not your thing, give yourself permission to stop reading!
- Not into your typical superhero comics? Try these graphic novels for people who don't read graphic novels.
- Haven't read poetry since high school? Try something from our poetry collection.
- Love historical fiction? Try these non-fiction pairings.

Team Progress

The Book Worms have reached the finish line with 381 books! The Book Besties have leapt into second at 297. The Underliners and The Cliffhangers are neck and neck at 266 and 264, with The Hidden Gems close behind at 237 and The Literary Legends at 235. The Reading Rangers round out the standings with 222 books.

Forgot your team name? Check the team page! New participants are given a team on Thursdays, so if you don't see your username, check back next week.

Leaderboard

pearlmsqueaks holds on to first place, with newcomer calbain close behind in second. As the librarian who encouraged calbain to join summer reading, I have the inside scoop! Although she registered this week, all 57 books were indeed read after June 16 😲 Remember, even if you register late, you can include any books you started after June 16!

szy09 moves into third, followed by Cathy in fourth and sharonkay in fifth. TheRantingGnome takes sixth, ntine10 is in seventh, and amjastern holds eighth. Beth takes ninth, and morganh rounds out the top ten in tenth place.

This is the first week with no ties!
