Subject: How to grip the barbell for presses—details that make all the difference

“There are no big things, only a logical accumulation of little things done at a very high standard of performance.”—John Wooden

The problem with little things is that they often get treated as such. Usually ignored or only given a modicum of attention, something to be “passed through” to get to the “big thing.” However, as Coach Wooden so correctly highlights, there are no big things. Only little things done well.

One of the little things in barbell training that does not get the attention it deserves is executing the grip on the barbell at a high standard of performance.

In this clip from the StrongFirst Barbell Fundamentals online course, Fabio Zonin and Jeremy Layport, StrongFirst Certified Master Instructors, discuss essential details for the most effective grip for any press using the barbell.
