A few years later—jog, trip, smack!—shoulder wrecked again. The surgeon wanted to cut. The coach said, “Let’s rehab,” cleared it with the doc, and wrote the plan. Today? Full mobility, full function, no slice, no dice.
Another training partner in his 40s—backyard basketball with his teen son—takes a step, calf explodes. Kid makes the layup while dad writhes. Surgery, PT, then a StrongFirst rebuild plan. This guy has squatted and deadlifted over 500lb—now he’s back at it.
The truth is that every member of our little StrongFirst training crew has faced injury, illness, or surgery. One is just now returning after a stroke earlier this year. Setbacks are inevitable. That’s when having a world-class coach in your corner matters most.
Strength has a greater purpose. Yes, it’s a massive advantage during illness or injury—but recovery is where the StrongFirst system shines. Proper movement is baked in, and training can be tailored to start exactly where the athlete is... and the journey of General Physical Progression begins again. (Might have to add GPP: General Physical Progression to our new terms clubhouse.)
This year I turn 70. My StrongFirst Certified Elite Instructor, Brian Myers, programs my training to maintain strength, fitness, and function while fixing the asymmetries that could trip me up later... because the best injury strategy is prevention.
StrongFirst isn’t just the school of General Physical Preparedness (GPP)—it’s a world-class method for General Physical “Repairedness” (GPR—yep, we just invented that second one).
Get Stronger. Move Better. Stay Healthy.
And when life knocks you down—get back up and get back in the game... with a little help from your StrongFirst coach.
