As always, Staf's diary is busy with Focus Groups, Managers' Forums, Practitioners' Gatherings and a re-run of our hugely popular Changing Minds Changing Lives course - sign up today before we're fully booked!

All the best,

The Care Review: Journey
One year on from its launch in May 2017, the Care Review is sharing findings from the Discovery stage and the plans that have emerged from what the Care Review has learned. Now moving into the Journey stage, the Care Review will begin to deliver improvements for infants, children and young people who experience care. To find out more and how you can get involved, visit the Care Review website.
Staf Membership Survey
Please take five minutes to complete our short membership survey - even if you are new, or haven't been able to attend one of our events before! The reason Staf exists is to represent you and give you a forum to air your views, so please make sure you take this important opportunity to give us feedback.
Brothers and Sisters Separation and Contact
Our East Ayrshire based project Connecting Voices have published their report into sibling separation, 'Brothers and Sisters Separation and Contact'. The report looks at the behavioural and emotional impacts of separation, as well as the impacts on the relationships between brothers and sisters who were separated on entering the care system.
Changing Minds, Changing Lives
Staf's fully-booked course Changing Minds, Changing Lives, facilitated by Gerald Neil, took place on 23rd May 2018.

Now a successful accountant, qualified stress and relaxation therapist and an affiliate member of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis, Gerald explained how he overcame trauma and adversity, and the tools and techniques he has learnt to downgrade the effects of stress quickly.

We received phenomenal feedback from the course:

"Hearing such an inspirational story of how a disadvantaged background can be overcome gave me a great feeling of hope."

"It has truly given me hope and inspiration to take that renewed energy back to my colleagues and young people."

If you missed this opportunity, the Changing Minds Changing Lives course will take place again on 19th September at the Albert Halls in Stirling. To book, click here.

Staf National Conference 2018
Healing from Trauma and Moving On
27th November 2018, Glasgow Science Centre

Staf's first National Conference will bring together national and international speakers to share the latest findings and practice from neuroscience and trauma recovery, which will serve to strenghten our existing understanding as you deliver services to the young people in your care.

Early bird rates for members is £69.95 - but hurry, last date to purchase at this price is 29th June 2018.

If you only have time to read, listen or watch one thing this week, make sure it's one of the below.

Read: The Future of Healing (Dr Shawn Ginwright)
An interesting article regarding trauma and trauma-informed practice, which can help us shift the current narrative from "what happened to you?" to "what's right with you?".

Listen: What's The Problem (BBC Radio 4)
Has increased awareness of mental health problems contributed to "medicalising" feelings and behaviours, that in the past were thought of as part and parcel of adolescence?

Watch: Transformation (Dr Joe Dispenza)
Dr Joe Dispenza lectured in over 17 different countries educating people about the role and function of the human brain. He explains how thinking in new ways, as well as changing beliefs, can literally rewire one's brain.
