Subject: A message from Siobhian Brown MSP | Staf National Conference 2026

Good afternoon Friend,

Thank you for joining us at Staf’s National Conference 2026, No Cliff Edges: Pathways to Adulthood, Connection and Opportunity.

It was wonderful to bring together colleagues from across Scotland to reflect on how we can strengthen relationships, create more consistent support, and ensure care experienced young people have the connections and opportunities they need to thrive as they move into adulthood.

Unfortunately, Siobhian Brown MSP, Minister for Children, Young People and The Promise, was unable to deliver her keynote in person on the day. We’re pleased to share her message with you now in this video.

We hope you’ll take a few moments to watch and reflect on the Minister’s message, and on what it means for our collective work to make Scotland a place where care experienced young people can thrive.

The conversations and ideas shared at our conference reminded us that meaningful change depends on collaboration, listening to young people’s experiences, and working together across services and systems.

We look forward to continuing to work with the Minister and the Scottish Government, alongside our members, partners and care experienced young people, to turn shared ambitions into meaningful action. Together, we can help create a future where young people experience continuity, belonging and opportunity, without the cliff edges that too often accompany the transition to adulthood.

The benefits of Staf membership

Events like our National Conference are one of the great benefits of Staf membership, creating opportunities to connect, share learning and exchange ideas with people working across Scotland.

At our National Conference, we spoke to Mark Crosbie, Young People’s Transitions Worker at Dumfries and Galloway Council, about the benefits of Staf membership and how being part of the network helps him stay up to date, share ideas and build connections across Scotland.

As Mark explains:

“Just constantly being in the loop, updates, different ideas, our sector is always evolving and being involved in these different groups like the supported lodgings group, it just enables us to work to the best of our ability and have the best and most up-to-date information and always have that contact or shared contacts throughout Scotland if we need anything.”

If you or your organisation are interested in becoming a member, visit our website or get in touch with the team to find out more.

Keep the conversation going

And if you’d like to keep the conversation going, join us online on 24 November for our Care and Justice Summit: Voices, Policy and Practice. Bringing together professionals, policy leaders, practitioners and people with lived experience, the summit will explore current challenges and how we can build systems that are more relational, rights-based and trauma-informed. We’d love to see you there!

Thank you again for being part of the Staf community and for the commitment you bring to this work every day. We look forward to building on the connections made and the conversations started at the conference.

Best wishes,

The Staf Team
