SHIIP Offers Medicare Counseling Locally
Where can I go to find answers about Medicare prescription drug plans? Are mammograms covered by Medicare Part B? What is a Medicare Advantage plan? I will be turning 65—who can help me understand Medicare?

Answers to these questions can be found by meeting with Linda Thiesen, a Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) — Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) volunteer counselor at Spencer Hospital.

People wishing to schedule an appointment with a SHIIP—SMP counselor in the Clay County area should call (712) 264-6198.

Breast Cancer Awareness Walk Provides Support
Celebrate survivors, honor loved ones who have lost their breast cancer battle, support those who are currently undergoing cancer care and join in helping bring attention to the importance of increasing awareness of breast cancer screenings and treatment by participating in the Spencer area Breast Cancer Awareness Walk on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 4 PM at Spencer Hospital.

Special breast cancer awareness walk t-shirts are provided as supplies last. A freewill donation opportunity for Women’s Health Services or the Abben Cancer Center will be available at the event.

Remembering a Loved One with a Memorial Donation
The children of Cheryl Volkert recently presented a gift to the Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation in memory of their mother.

“We are thankful for the care Mom was able to receive so close to home. Without the outreach clinics provided by Spencer Hospital we would have had to drive to Sioux Falls. We are so lucky to have this care locally,” said daughters Cheri Prange, Teri Chinn and Crystal Renken. (Not pictured is son, Dan Volkert.)

The Foundation is often the recipient of memorial and honor gifts. "What a special way to honor a loved one; with a gift that will help others," said Mindy Gress, Foundation Executive Director. "We are honored to help celebrate a life by using these donations to assist in the care of another."
