| Summer Stomachs: Avoid Food Safety Pitfalls |

| Who doesn’t love summer? The warm weather is inviting for family gatherings, weddings, class reunions, picnics, and barbeques… and also foodborne illnesses (i.e. food poisoning)! According to the CDC, about 1 in 6 (or 48 million) people gets sick each year from contaminated food. And summertime is prime time for a foodborne illness to rear its ugly head.

| Back To School: New Immunization Requirements |

| Do you have a child entering 7th-12th grade? Are they up to date with adolescent vaccines? Iowa recently updated the immunization requirements within the Iowa Administrative Code. These requirements become effective for the 2017-18 school year. Your child will need proof of immunization prior to the start of school.

An ear of corn has about the same number of calories as an apple and less than one-fourth of the sugar. However, watch your toppings - melted butter and salt detract from health benefits. Sweet corn is also good for fiber, antioxidants and is loaded with lutein and zeaxanthin, both which promote healthy vision. Eat up! |

| Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Yogesh Kolwadkar, Orthopaedics, PC, will be the guest speaker at a lunch & learn program hosted by Spencer Hospital on Thursday, August 24, from noon to 1 PM.
