Local Physician Receives Honorary Degree from the American Academy of Family Physicians

Dr. David Keith, DO, a family physician with Avera Medical Group Spencer, has achieved the Degree of Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the national medical association representing nearly 127,600 family physicians, residents and medical students. Dr. Keith was one of more than 250 family physicians who received his FAAFP degree last fall during the American Academy of Family Physicians' annual meeting held in Chicago.

Applicants Sought for Healthcare Scholarships & Loan Program - March 31 Deadline

Applications are now being accepted for the Bennie B. and Ernestine F. Shine Scholarship, Adam J. Anderson Scholarship, as well as the Cornwall Loan Program. All programs are designed to help area students pursue healthcare careers. Deadline is March 31, 2024.

First Baby of 2024 Makes Surprise Arrival!

Spencer Hospital's Birth Center initially had a quiet start to the New Year; that is until Jessica Rojas and Juan Lopez arrived unexpectedly on Tuesday evening, Jan. 2, with Jessica in active labor. At 4 AM on Wednesday, January 3, little baby Liam Lopez made his arrival into the world, earning him the distinction of Spencer Hospital's first baby of 2024.

Babies born at Spencer Hospital throughout 2023 covered the alphabet from A to Z with baby girl names ranging from Adalynn to Zyanya and baby boys named Aengus to Zion.


“We love being part of each family’s birth experience at Spencer Hospital,” remarked Ann Polaschek, birth center director. “It’s fun learning what names parents have chosen for each child. Each baby is special and often we see their personalities emerging from day one.”

Donor Dollars at Work: Crash Carts

The Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation helped purchase 10 new crash carts for the hospital so they can be standardized hospital-wide, aiding in patient safety and improving workflow. Nurse educators Emily Wildeman, Molly Lovin, and Kylee Zinn join Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation Director Sara Taylor in sharing insight about the new crash carts and how they will benefit the hospital.
