Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation's Annual Fund Drive Focuses on Cardiac Rehab Expansion
Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation services available at Spencer Hospital have provided expert guidance over the past 20-plus years, helping people who have experienced a heart health incident achieve their maximum health. The need for services is growing – more than 8,000 cardiopulmonary patient visits occurred in 2019. To meet those needs, Spencer Hospital is expanding through renovation of the rehabilitation gym and educational area, along with the addition of new equipment. To assist with this beneficial project, the Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation’s annual end-of-the-year fund drive is specifically raising funds for the project.

“Your gift to the foundation demonstrates your heartfelt support for your family, friends, and neighbors who may be battling a cardiovascular disease. Your support of the foundation is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in our community,” Taylor commented. “I invite anyone with questions regarding this year’s annual fund drive or other giving opportunities at Spencer Hospital to contact me.” Taylor can be reached by email at giving@spencerhospital.org or by phone, (712) 264-6226.

Auxiliary Cookie Walk Canceled - Recipes for All to Enjoy
A favorite holiday tradition at Spencer Hospital is our Auxiliary's annual Cookie Walk. In keeping with health precautions in 2020, the Cookie Walk was canceled, yet our wonderful volunteers have a sweet treat for everyone, sharing just a few of their wonderful recipes for you to try and enjoy.

When life gets back to more "normal," we invite community members to consider joining Spencer Hospital's Auxiliary's team of smiling, helpful volunteers, aiding in wayfinding, projects, or staffing the Gift Shop. Like the Cookie Walk, the Gift Shop is one of the auxiliary's fund-raising projects which isn't as active this year, open only occasionally for those in the hospital during those flash sales. Monetary support for the Spencer Hospital Auxiliary and their many projects can be sent to: Spencer Hospital Auxiliary, 1200 First Ave., E., Spencer, IA 51301. Happy Holidays and Enjoy Baking!

Celebrating the Holidays Safely to Remain Healthy
The COVID-19 pandemic has been stressful and isolating for many people. Gatherings during the upcoming holidays can be an opportunity to reconnect with family and friends. This holiday season, consider how your holiday plans can be modified to reduce the spread of COVID-19 to keep your friends, families, and communities healthy and safe.

Celebrating virtually or with members of your own household who are consistently taking measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 poses the lowest risk.

Healthy Holiday Nutrition Tips
The holiday season is usually packed full of parties, shopping, decorating, extra errands and, of course, eating! It can be hard to see a way to get through this time without gaining weight. But, with a little planning ahead, you can.

What are the things that get in the way of your healthy habits during this time? Maybe your old family recipes are higher in fat and calories, or you are using your exercise time to go shopping for presents. Maybe you usually keep track of what you are eating, but you feel too rushed to take the time right now.

The first step is to brainstorm! Maybe you usually go walking for 60 minutes after work, but that’s when you need to run errands. So, break your exercise up into smaller sessions throughout the day. Or, is it those holiday recipes that are your personnel challenge? Try writing out the recipes and swapping out ingredients.

Spencer Ag Center Provides Clay County Public Health with COVID-19 Vaccine Storage
When national news shared that the vaccines being developed for COVID-19 would need to be kept at ultra-cold temps, especially the Pfizer vaccine which needs to be stored at minus 70 degrees Celsius, Clay County Public Health Coordinator Colette Rossiter got a helpful phone call. Spencer Ag Center just happens to have a large capacity freezer equipped with the technology to provide the sub-zero storage, and generously offered it on loan to help the community. What kindness! The settings are adjustable to easy adapt the freezer to house the Moderna vaccine as well. Achieving capacity for frozen vaccine = heartwarming gratitude.
