| | | | Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Private Reserve 2021
For longtime Napa collectors, Beringer Private Reserve needs no introduction. For over four decades it has represented the very best Beringer can produce, a wine that helped define modern Napa luxury long before most cult wineries even existed. And 2021? One of Napa Valley’s greatest recent vintages, the kind of year where a flagship wine like this simply soars.
What makes Private Reserve unique is that it’s not tied to a single vineyard. Instead, it is built from the estate’s finest parcels across Napa Valley, creating what many consider the ultimate “Grand Cru Blend” of Napa Cabernet.
The foundation comes from the volcanic soils of Howell Mountain, where Steinhauer Ranch and Bancroft Ranch contribute incredible structure, concentration, and mineral intensity. Rich fruit from Beringer’s historic St. Helena Home Vineyard and Chabot Vineyard provides depth and elegance, while carefully selected fruit from Oakville’s Gamble Ranch and Mount Veeder’s Lampyridae Vineyard adds lift, complexity, and freshness. Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Malbec complete the blend, adding aromatic detail and remarkable finesse.
The result is everything Private Reserve has become famous for: tremendous depth, impeccable balance, and extraordinary aging potential. |
| | | | Solar de Becquer Rioja Gran Reserva 2004
The grapes for the Solar de Becquer Rioja Gran Reserva 2004 come from the family’s Cuesta La Reina estate. NO purchased fruit. Located on Monte Yerga on the sun faced side of the slopes, the Cuesta de la Reina Estate starts at an altitude of 450 meters and ascends to 800 meters. The soils, clayey-calcareous, are very poor and with an abundance of rocks. The estate of 120 hectares has belonged to the family for four generations and the family itself has always cultivated the vineyard. The approximate average age of the vines is an impressive 75 years.
The fermentation is done in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeast. Once the fermentation is finished, it is macerated for at least 10 days. The ageing is done in neutral, older American oak barrels, and it remains in them for at least 24 months. The final blend in 2004 was 70% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha and 15% Mazuelo.
