| | | Cerro Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2022
Derek Beitler learned winemaking doing odd jobs at his Uncle Chuck's little Rutherford operation... a winery called Caymus. Today he's a true one-man show, no employees, no cellar help, bottling just 2,000 cases across his micro-boutique labels, and the Cerro Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2022 is the best kind of insider deal. It comes primarily from his estate vineyard in Capell Valley, a high-elevation corner of eastern Napa at Stagecoach-type heights of 1,500+ feet, where loamy soils and altitude deliver a Rutherford-meets-Howell profile that may just be Napa's next big thing. Forget the stylistic excess of today's Wagner-family wines; this is a right, proper Cabernet in the mold of early-1990s Caymus, pure, refined, and powerful. |
