Subject: Happy Holidays from SMART Recovery

We are grateful for you being part of our community

Dear SMART Community Members,

It’s been three weeks since I became the Acting Executive Director of SMART Recovery USA. I would like to thank our Board of Directors for their trust in me. And I’d like to thank Christi Alicea for her continued commitment to SMART as she transitioned the role to me. Christi remains an important part of our leadership team going forward.

I know firsthand the challenges that can be a part of navigating this season while maintaining one’s own recovery or supporting someone else who is pursuing secure recovery. I also know the peace and joy that come from celebrating a holiday for the first time in a while with a truly clear mind. I’m sending supportive energy to all of you for the time ahead, whatever it might hold. I especially want to thank those of you who are facilitating meetings for our participants during this time. Your dedication to SMART and our participants matters.

As I look back on 2022 and forward to 2023, I’m inspired by the growth I see happening across this organization. We all want SMART Recovery to be available to more individuals in more communities around our country. I’m committed to working hard alongside you and our dedicated National Office team to make that happen.

It’s not easy work, but it’s important work. We’re not just helping people overcome problematic behaviors, though that’s obviously important. We’re transforming our world one self-empowered life beyond addiction at a time.

On behalf of the entire SMART Recovery community, I wish you and yours a peaceful holiday season and a hopeful New Year.

Peace,

Pete Rubinas

Acting Executive Director

P.S. The National Office will be closed December 23rd-26th and December 30th-January 2nd. Please check SMARTfinder for any holiday-related meeting schedule changes.

SMART Recovery is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
