Hey Friend
If you recently completed my Leadership Sustainability Check-in, there’s a good chance you’re already thinking about where your leadership might be becoming a little less sustainable than you’d like.
One of the patterns I see ALL the time with leaders is around dependency. Your people come to you for the answer, the decision, the reassurance of a decision. If something goes wrong then they come back again.
And if you're a leader who wants to be there for your people, who wants to help, to be of service...or even if you're the leader who gets a little dopamine hit from giving a response or accomplishing something, then you'll probably step in.
It's effective…until it's not...then it's exhausting!
Because you end up creating a team who are overly reliant on you to do their thinking and you're left with very little time to actually lead - to do the strategic thinking, planning, development and work that will actually move your team forward - that's the stuff you leave for another time.
In my Lead to Empower program I help you change HOW you respond so your support starts building capability rather than dependency.
This could include asking instead of telling, holding a boundary instead of stepping in, letting someone sit with a problem for a little longer or simply resisting the urge to give them the answer when you know they’re capable of finding it themselves.
My next Lead to Empower program starts on 5 November - next week!
If you’re ready to reduce the dependency your team has on you, build more ownership and free yourself up to focus on where the team needs to go next, you can find out more here:

If your team needs you for everything, you’re always going to struggle to create the space to think bigger than what’s happening today.
Stay strong - be kind!
Shelley 😁
