Subject: What I’m Learning About Leadership in Midlife

Are you navigating your own midlife transition, feeling the push to grow, or simply wanting to lead yourself and others with more clarity?

You are exactly where you're supposed to be right now!

Hey Friend

I recorded this video after sharing my recent article on lifelong learning.

It’s a little raw and a little real - and yes, my brain took a few scenic turns before getting to the point (thank you perimenopause brain fog), but that’s also part of the message.

Over the last few years my personal development focus has shifted through a few different phases - from broadening perspectives, improving communication, learning patience - to more recently, learning to let go.

Or more accurately… learning to surrender.

To surrender to the things I cannot control and were never meant to control.

One phrase that keeps coming back to me lately is:

“You are exactly where you are supposed to be right now.”

For someone who is naturally future-focused and always moving toward the next milestone, that’s been a powerful reminder to slow down long enough to appreciate where I am - not just where I’m going.

This season of life has been teaching me a lot.

  • Living with chronic back pain.

  • Navigating perimenopause.

  • Adjusting to a brain that doesn’t quite work the way it used to.

And at the same time… continuing to learn.

This year I’m deepening my learning in two areas:

  1. Menopause coaching - because midlife leadership is complex and not talked about enough

  2. Master Spiral training - expanding my ability to work with the emotional patterns that sit beneath behaviour and decision-making

None of this sits neatly inside a traditional leadership development box.

But leadership has never just been about work.

It’s about the whole person.

Which is something I talk about a lot through Strong & Kind - the idea that we can lead with strength while still being deeply human.

So if this message resonates with you - if you’re navigating your own midlife transition, feeling the push to grow, or simply wanting to lead yourself and others with more clarity - my one-on-one executive coaching work is designed for exactly these conversations.

And if nothing else, take this reminder with you today:

You are exactly where you are supposed to be right now.

Sometimes the most powerful leadership move is simply learning to let go and trust the phase of life you’re in.

If this resonates and you're interested in having a conversation about coaching feel free to reply to this email or book a conversation here.

With strength and kindness,

Shelley

The more you learn to let go and surrender to what you can’t control, the more open you become to opportunities and possibilities.
