It's interesting, as leaders, that we’re expected to connect with our people in a genuine, authentic, kind, fair and balanced way.


Today, that expectation goes so much further. We’re also expected to understand individual goals, motivations, aspirations, triggers, learning styles and communication preferences… and then adjust our style to meet each person where they are.


And while I love that we live in a country that protects people from being exploited by their employer - and I truly believe we’ve made incredible progress in health, wellbeing and psychosocial safety - there’s a part of this that doesn’t sit quite right with me.

We’re placing a growing expectation on leaders to “just know how” to do all of this.


To adapt.


To coach.


To connect.


Often without being taught how.


And for many leaders, who are already carrying a lot, this creates even more pressure.


My view is, before we can understand and develop others, we must first understand and develop ourselves.

What are our expectations?


What drives us?


What are our natural tendencies - and how do they show up with different personalities.


This is where sustainable leadership begins.


The Lead to Connect program is designed to support leaders to build this foundation. To develop emotional awareness (includes a personalised Emotional Capital Report), strengthen coaching capability, and identify practical ways to adapt and work more effectively with others.


Because when we take the time to go inward first, our outward leadership becomes clearer, calmer and far more effective.

Too often we doubt the strength we already hold, reaching outward for answers that were within us all along.
