The first stage of preventing burnout is awareness.
It's about noticing your energy levels, your frustration, resentment, irritability or your ability to switch off outside of work. It's about noticing what's disappeared from your calendar and the justifications you've created.
Once you have the awareness you can then ask yourself: what is the ultimate cost of all the compromises and sacrifices I've made up to this point in my career?
Being successful in your leadership career doesn't have to involve compromise or sacrifice, at least not at the level you've come to know. It simply involves a new approach, where you evolve as your role and your life evolves.
It involves getting clearer on your workload, using more choice, strengthening your connections, checking your alignment and making sure you’re recovering from the demands of leadership.
Based on a lot of academic research on burnout, along with my own experience, I have created the Leadership Sustainability Check-In to help you build more awareness and choice.
It’s a free reflection resource that explores across five areas: Workload, Choice, Connection, Alignment and Recovery. It will help you track and notice where pressure is building and where you may have more options than you realise.
Download it here.
Pay attention while you still have choices.
