SMS Alert Text:

Multiple media outlets have identified the YouTube shooter as Nasim Aghdam, a California resident of Persian Azeri descent. See email for add'l info.

Supplemental Info:

The suspect's social media footprint has already been scrubbed. This includes her YouTube and Instagram channels.

At the time this email was prepared, her personal website was still active:

It is unknown if there is a nexus between the suspect and any established terrorist organization.

That said, subscribers are reminded that on Feb 8, 2018, AlertsUSA warned of the release of a new Islamic State video calling on women to join the jihad.

See the video and read the analysis here:

Bear in mind that the Islamic State and al Qaeda are Sunni Muslim organizations. Muslims identifying as Persian / Iranian are typically Shia (Shiite) Muslims.

While the Sunni and Shia both consider the Koran to be divine, significant differences exist with adherence to the remaining religious texts. In addition, the two groups have widely varying religious practices, traditions, and customs.

It is important to understand that the core dispute between the Sunni and Shia, which continues to this day, is based on a historical power struggle and not on religious doctrine.
