Renewed US-Iran Strikes / Retaliation Threats
September 19, 2026
U.S. diplomatic missions across the Middle East have issued a common security alert warning that the regional environment remains complex and that escalation in the Iran conflict remains possible with little notice. Near-identical notices appeared from missions covering Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and Iran (virtual embassy). Americans in the region are told to exercise heightened vigilance and prepare for flight cancellations, airspace closures, and sudden travel disruption.
The alert reflects a war now in its seventh month. Direct large-scale missile and drone attacks on host-nation territory have been quieter since early September, but that pause is not a settlement. Iranian-supported Houthis have again struck Saudi targets, including civilian airports; missions warn that fighting can widen quickly. Iran and aligned groups may also target U.S. diplomatic facilities, businesses, and other sites associated with Americans—inside the region and abroad.

Event: Due to tensions in the Middle East, the security environment remains complex with the potential for unforeseen escalation.
Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise heightened vigilance and be aware of potential flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions.
Check your flight’s departure status with the airline directly or through:
Iranian-supported Houthis have engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including civilian airports. This military conflict has the potential to escalate rapidly.
Americans traveling to or from the region should monitor information about airport and airline operations.
U.S. diplomatic facilities, including outside the Middle East, have been targeted. Iran and groups supportive of Iran may target other U.S. interests overseas or at locations associated with the United States and Americans throughout the world, including U.S. businesses and other institutions.
Operating Status
The U.S. Embassy Jerusalem and Embassy Branch Office Tel Aviv consular sections are both open for routine and emergency consular services.
Actions to Take:
Enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) . STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates and makes it easier for the U.S. embassy to contact you in an emergency.
Know the location of your closest shelter or protected space .

Find a secure location within your residence or another safe building. Have a supply of food, water, medications, and other essential items.

Keep your cell phone charged and pre-programmed with the emergency numbers listed below.
Be aware of your surroundings.
Avoid all demonstrations and large gatherings.
Avoid all areas where there is a heavy police presence.
Monitor local media.
Follow the instructions of local authorities.
Contact your airline directly for flight change details if your flight is affected.
Exercise caution and stay alert at locations publicly associated with the United States.
