Event: The Department of State’s Travel Advisory for the United Kingdom is currently set at Level 2 – Exercise Increased Caution due to the risk of terrorism. There is continued risk of terrorist violence in the United Kingdom.


U.S. citizens can reduce their risk of harm by remaining vigilant and taking precautionary measures to increase their safety.


Actions to Take:


Personal Security:


* Remain alert in locations frequented by tourists and expatriates, including places of worship.


* Exercise heightened awareness when visiting American or Jewish institutions, community centers, and religious sites.


* Secure valuables properly in bags or on your person when in public.


* Stay aware of your surroundings, not your device, especially while commuting.


* Vary your times and routes to and from work.


* Use well-lit, established walkways and avoid unfamiliar shortcuts.


* Maintain a low profile and avoid drawing attention to yourself.


* Share your daily travel plans with friends and family.


* Monitor local media for updates.


Emergency Preparedness:


* Maintain a bag with essential items (passport, medications, cash, phone charger, change of clothes, important documents).


* Know locations of your passport, important documents, and emergency supplies.


* Keep emergency contact information readily accessible.


* Ensure family members know emergency meeting points and procedures.


* Keep your mobile phone fully charged.


At Home and in Vehicles:


* Keep doors locked and windows closed (residence and vehicle).


* Do not leave valuables in plain view.


* Check the interior and exterior of your vehicle before entering. Look for anything irregular or abnormal.


On the Road:


* Leave maneuvering space in traffic and always maintain an exit route.


* Avoid choke points and be wary of diversions.


* If followed or harassed by another driver, drive to the nearest police station, hotel, or public facility. Call 999 immediately.


Demonstrations and Large Events:


* These can escalate unexpectedly.


* Monitor local news and follow local authority instructions.


* Avoid protest assembly areas when possible.
