Supplemental Info:
BACKGROUND
Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia have escalated due to a longstanding border dispute over un-demarcated areas along their 500-mile-long frontier, particularly around ancient Khmer temples like Ta Moan Thom and Preah Vihear. At least 12 Thai civilians and one soldier were killed on July 24, prompting Thai airstrikes and border closures. Cambodia has activated a military draft. Historical rivalries, colonial-era border ambiguities, and domestic political pressures continue to hinder resolution despite calls from China and other regional nations for dialogue.
