Background


Early on March 8, 2026, a small incendiary device was detonated outide of the Embassy in Oslo, Norway. The explosion caused only minor damage. No deaths or injuries were reported. No public statement was released by the embassy. Norwegian police say that while motive remains unclear, the incident is potentially linked to the current Middle East security situation.

Location: Sweden


Event: Following media reporting regarding a security incident at the U.S. Embassy in Oslo early this morning, the U.S. Embassy in Stockholm reminds U.S. citizens to maintain good personal security practices and exercise heightened situational awareness. The U.S. Embassy in Stockholm remains open for routine services.


As noted in the Travel Advisory, terrorist groups continue plotting possible attacks in Sweden. Terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets/shopping malls, local government facilities, hotels, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, parks, major sporting and cultural events, educational institutions, airports, and other public areas.


There have been sudden demonstrations or protests near the Embassy. Embassy employees are advised to exercise caution when transiting to/from work, and to report any suspicious activity to security officials. Visitors to the U.S. Embassy, including U.S. citizens and visa applicants, should do the same. Protests may begin unexpectedly and without warning.
