US Embassy Kuwait issues security alert urging caution and a low profile following Iranian drone and missile attacks on Kuwait International Airport. See email.

Supplemental Info:

Background

On June 3, Iranian forces carried out a drone and missile attack on Kuwait International Airport. The strikes targeted Terminal 1 (the main passenger terminal), causing significant structural damage, fires, and thick smoke inside the building. One person was killed, and more than 60 others were injured, including passengers and airport staff. No Americans were reported injured in this incident.

Kuwait suspended all commercial flights immediately after the attack; the airport had only recently reopened following earlier closures related to the regional conflict.

There are ~30,000 US citizens living and working in Kuwait.

The US population is generally split into two halves:

Military Personnel: About 15,000 to 17,000 are active-duty troops, defense contractors, and support staff stationed at critical hubs like Camp Arifjan and Ali Al-Salem Air Base.

Civilian Expats: Roughly 13,000 to 15,000 are private citizens working in the oil and gas sector, corporate finance, English-language private schools, and academic institutions like the American University of Kuwait (AUK). The civilian American community is concentrated primarily in expat-heavy coastal neighborhoods of Kuwait City, such as Salmiya and Shaab.
