Tropical Storm Harvey Situation Update - August 28, 2017 - sent via email.

Supplemental Info:

According to the National Hurricane Center, Topical Storm Harvey has begun to slowly move back over the Gulf of Mexico. Very heavy rains and life-threatening flash flooding continue over southeastern Texas and southwestern Louisiana. There have been reports of 2-day rainfall totals of close to 35 inches in the Greater Houston area. With the additional rains that are expected over the next several days, rainfall totals could reach 50 inches in some locations, which would be historic for the area.

Major roadways and freeways across the greater Houston area are either flooded or otherwise obstructed.

10 key petroleum refineries and production facilities have been closed. As AlertsUSA had previously warned, gas prices are rising nationwide.

State officials have asked the City of Dallas to prepare the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center as a mega shelter to house up to 5,000 Hurricane Harvey evacuees.

Be advised that while the majority of the mainstream news coverage is focused on the Houston area, significant damage, power outages and the loss of key utilities and services stretches further south than Corpus Christi.
