AlertsUSA monitoring investigation of explosion this afternoon on a ferry dockside at Playa del Carmen, Mexico. See email for more info

Supplemental Info:

The Barcos Caribe ferry had just arrived at the dock following a run from Cozumel when the explosion occurred. At least 12 injured. Initially believed to be the result of a fuel leak, Mexican law enforcement sources indicate the investigation is leaning towards terrorism.

Subscribers are reminded that in January, 2017, a lone gunman entered the Blue Parrot nightclub in Playa del Carmen and opened fire, killing 5 (including 1 American) and injuring 15.

Overall, drug cartel violence and homicides are on the rise across the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, home to Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Cozumel.

Those considering travel to Mexico this Spring are urged to thoroughly review the U.S. State Department's LEVEL 2 Travel Advisory and U.S. Embassy Security messages.
