The protests are in response to shooting incident involving federal ICE agents in south Minneapolis near the intersection of East 34th Street and Portland Avenue.

The shooting took place during a large-scale DHS immigration enforcement operation. Reports indicate that an ICE agent discharged a firearm, striking a civilian woman inside a vehicle. Federal sources characterize the incident as involving a potential vehicle ramming attempt against agents.

In the aftermath, a significant law enforcement presence, including ICE, Border Patrol, and Minneapolis Police, secured the area, leading to protests and reported clashes with demonstrators chanting anti-ICE slogans. Chemical irritants were deployed to disperse crowds.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey described the federal presence as causing chaos and demanded that ICE agents leave the city immediately, while expressing solidarity with immigrant and refugee communities.
