Welcome to our third SEND Newsletter.

In this edition you will find information on the Return to School, Early Help and the Northumberland Information, Advice and Support Service.
Returning to school
We understand that whilst we continue to experience the effects of coronavirus the return to school can be a worrying time for both you and your child.

As a parent you may be worried about your child being back in school and for that reason we have created a selection of resources that are designed to help you, and help you support your child.

However, whilst these resources are there to support you if your child does find it difficult going back to school please talk to school staff.
Early Help
Early Help is offered everyday by communities, volunteers, charities, children centres, schools and other services.

Early Help is about working with children, young people and their families who would like support.

In Northumberland, we take into account the role of parents, carers and environmental factors on children’s development.

This means professionals and families are better placed to agree appropriate support.

If you’re a parent or carer of a child who you feel would benefit from additional support, please ask the child’s school or other involved professional to make a referral to Early Help First Contact.
Northumberland Information, Advice and Support Service
We offer impartial information, advice and support to families of children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities.

The service is free and confidential. We also support children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities up to the age of 25.

We can help you by:
  • improving your understanding of the special educational needs system
  • listening to your concerns
  • helping you to express your views
  • helping you to prepare for meetings and attending them with you, if required
  • helping you with the paperwork
  • helping explore the options for a child or young person’s education
  • putting you in touch with other support organisations

Northumberland’s Local Offer is continually developing and your feedback is important to help us shape the future delivery.

Please let us know if you there is something you would like to find out about in future bulletins.
