Every donation helps reconnect fragmented forest and protect wildlife
| | | | | In the Sainte Luce littoral forest of southeast Madagascar, signs of recovery are beginning to emerge 🌴 Areas that were once degraded are showing clear signs of regeneration, while forest corridors planted in recent years are helping to reconnect habitats that had become fragmented. Encouragingly, endangered lemurs have already been observed moving between forest patches that were once isolated – a promising sign that restoration efforts are working. This progress has been made possible by SEED and communities in Sainte Luce through the Ala Programme. Since 2019, community members have helped restore the forest through tree planting, community involvement, and fire prevention. Today, five restored corridors are already supporting the return of wildlife and strengthening connections across the landscape. Building on these successes, the next phase of the programme will see 30,000 native trees planted, enhanced fire prevention measures, and continued support for community-led conservation. Together, these efforts will help protect one of Madagascar's unique ecosystems while supporting the people who depend on it. | | | | Madagascar has already lost more than 90% of its littoral forest, leaving small, fragmented patches under pressure. In Sainte Luce, around 1,000 hectares remain, and many species can no longer move freely between them. Every corridor, tree, and community effort helps rebuild the landscape. If you are able, please consider donating to support the next phase of the Ala Programme. Your support helps sustain this work in Sainte Luce. | | | Alongside this conservation work, there are also small but important community-led initiatives helping strengthen livelihoods in Sainte Luce. |
