Look before you leap: 2012 global security hotspots revealed
Risk analysis from a global security specialist suggests that 2012 is likely to witness ongoing civil unrest, political instability and change, and increased danger of terrorist activity.
Organised on a region-by-region basis, red24’s Threat Forecast aims to help clients prepare for potentially disruptive and dangerous developments, such as those linked to the ongoing effects of last year’s Arab Spring, which caught many off guard, and Europe’s ongoing sovereign debt crisis. The cultural advantages of an international school education
The international schools market has experienced a dramatic growth boom in recent years, in fact the sector ended the 2010/11 academic year with the highest number of schools ever in existence and the greatest number of students ever attending. The increase in choice will clearly be great news for relocating parents making schooling decisions during an international move, but will an international school be right for their child?

Serviced Apartments on the rise at Business Travel Show Serviced Apartment providers were on top form at the buzzing Business Travel Show held at Earls Court in London. Relocation’s favourites were there including SACO, BridgeStreet, Oakwood and The Ascott Limited. Association of Serviced Apartment Providers (ASAP) members, were well represented with 14 partner companies exhibiting in the ASAP Pavilion area. It was good to see an increasing number of serviced apartments available in far flung overseas locations because this is what relocation really needs, as well a wider UK regional spread. Corporate clients are ever more global and looking for joined up solutions that save them time and money. It was interesting to see serviced apartments being offered in India and Brazil as well as the popular growth areas in Asia Pacific. Find out more in our coverage of the serviced accommodation sector in the spring issue of Re:locate, with a special focus on their overseas offering and whether it is meeting current mobility trends.

Living and working in Brazil Thanks to its large population and immense natural resources, Brazil is one of the world’s largest and fastest growing economies. However, just because its major cities look superficially the same as anywhere and your contacts are sophisticated international travellers does not mean that Brazil is not different from Europe or significantly different from the UK. For a start, they speak Portuguese, and only the most educated Brazilians speak English beyond a few words. You will make little headway in developing relationships with business partners or in settling in on an assignment if you do not show that you are learning and using Portuguese. Brazilian Portuguese is different from European Portuguese in pronunciation, a few words and the occasional verb form. As a foreigner you can study with a European teacher, but it is better to learn from a Brazilian to become familiar with the pronunciation and occasional point of difference...

The study of multinational enterprises revealed four main modes of engagement: job state, organisation state, job behavioural and organisation behavioural.
