Experts comment on latest employment data

Employment DataA host of organisations have been eager to share with Re:locate readers their comments on the official employment data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) for the three months to May 2011, which showed that the total number of unemployed people in the UK fell by 26,000 over the quarter, to 2.45 million.

According to Dr John Philpott, chief economic adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the figures suggest that conditions in the labour market are weaker than earlier in the year.

Results of international migration study revealed

International RemovalsGlobal transportation specialist UniGroup Worldwide UTS has released findings from its new international migration study.

The data shows that, in 2010, European countries topped the list of destinations for US residents moving abroad, consistent with trends over the last ten years. Asian countries, however, appear higher and more frequently on the top destinations list.

New rules will make it easier to take pets overseas

Pet Travel SchemeMany relocating employees and their families will be pleased to hear that taking pets abroad is set to become easier – and cheaper – when new rules are introduced at the start of 2012.

The UK will harmonise its pet movement rules with the rest of the European Union from 1 January 2012, bringing its Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) into line with the most recent science.

New survey of overseas pupils reveals “disincentive” to study in UK

The Independent Schools Council (ISC) has published the results of a detailed survey of overseas students at ISC member schools. The survey provides a unique insight into the financial, administrative and long-term implications of the overseas market both to the UK economy as a whole and the UK independent school sector. But the ISC is concerned that, following the recent wave of student visa restrictions, there is a lasting impression that “Britain is no longer welcoming overseas pupils”.
