Re:locate: keeping you in touch

Relocate Magazine, Summer
2011Welcome to Re:locate Extra – the newsletter that keeps you informed of the latest developments in the world of relocation.

The Summer 2011 issue of Re:locate, with special awards supplement, is out next week. As well as bringing you coverage of the Gala Awards Dinner and this year’s Re:locate Awards winners, we’ll look at why culture is at the heart of relocation, the growing importance of providing healthcare cover for international assignees, the impact of recent world events on security and policy, and how the profile of international assignments – and assignees – is changing. Asia-Pacific is our regional focus, with more European countries also covered. Our education features look at boarding schools as an option for relocating families, plus the single-sex versus mixed-schools debate.

Home Affairs Committee criticises UKBA's ‘lack of progress’

visasThe Home Affairs Committee of the House of Commons has released a report criticising the lack of progress made by the UK Border Agency (UKBA) in controlling immigration to the UK.

As well as finding that only a small percentage of asylum seekers whose applications are rejected are subsequently removed from the country, the committee expressed concern that UKBA has not carried out checks on all employers registered as sponsors of skilled migrants and does not systematically follow up intelligence about possible illegal migrants. It has “grave doubts” as to whether the agency has the capacity to carry out the necessary checks on sponsors and individuals.
