Good morning, Friend,
Imagine the little Mustard Seed Secondary School girls' team placing third out of 64 teams! And look at all of those medals. The photo was taken at the Father Grimes Chess Tournament, which is held annually during the school break between the first and second terms. Our boys did well, too, placing 42nd out of 96 teams against stiff competition.
Their success is even more extraordinary because nearly all of the teams competing come from big schools located in big cities. And here comes little Mustard Seed from the small town of Lukaya.
For our students, this tournament goes way beyond playing chess. They traveled hours to western Uganda, farther from home than they otherwise would. They saw a big city and stayed at a school many times the size of their own. They competed, and they won. Their lives are enriched, and their dreams have grown bigger.
Experiences like this are made possible by your support for the basics: breakfast and lunch every day, outstanding teachers who care, healthcare, smart uniforms, and extracurricular activities. Thank you.
Gratefully, Elaine
