Hello, Friend,
Uganda continues to manage the Ebola situation effectively. As of yesterday, there are 19 confirmed cases—all traced to contact with individuals from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where the outbreak remains active. Current status: 12 hospital admissions, 5 recoveries, and 2 deaths.
The government's containment efforts are working, though we remain concerned given the ongoing outbreak just across the DRC border.
Gratefully, Elaine P.S. Great news—"Buy Breakfast" donations have exceeded this term's need! However, with the entire DRC-Uganda border closed, traffic through Lukaya has slowed to a trickle. Many of our students' parents, who normally sell to truckers and bus passengers, have lost even that small income. Combined with skyrocketing prices due to fuel costs, families are struggling more than ever to buy food and pay school fees. The border is unlikely to reopen before year-end, so continuing meal support is critical. $13 buys breakfast for one student for an entire term. Buy Breakfast
