- Any individual interested in exploring the intersection of psychology and politics—how psychology drives politics, and vice-versa—in the United States
The book, Mind of State: Conversations on the Psychological Conflicts Stirring U.S. Politics & Society, is a compilation of conversations that help fit together the broken pieces of our American psycho-political jigsaw puzzle. These nuanced discussions offer insights and reflections from leading experts – on psychology, politics, race, religion and more – to those of us struggling to make sense of our American political nonsense. Drawn from the Mind of State podcast created by some of the co-authors and contributors to the New York Times bestseller, The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump, this collection is as relevant now as it was when Apple Podcasts featured it as “New and Noteworthy” in 2019. The chapters are divided into five sections that reveal persistent themes underlying our increasing distress due to the interconnectedness of psychology and politics in the United States: Acknowledging Death, Trauma, and Loss; Why Truth Matters; Anxieties of Race and Dominance; Democracy at Risk; and The Importance of Myth in Politics
Contributors include Antoine Banks, Anne Barnard, Jessica Benjamin, Pauline Boss, Jules Cashford, Michael A. Cohen, Lisa Damour, William Davies, Megan Doney, Susan Fiske, Betty Sue Flowers, Justin Frank, Peter Glick, Anton Hart, Judith Herman, Adrienne Hollis, Ashley Jardina, Robert Jay Lifton, Eric Liu, Lilliana Mason, William “Scotty” McLennan, Nate Persily, Nancy Rosenblum, Thomas Singer, Hawthorne “Hawk” Smith, Sheldon Solomon, Michael Tansey, Eric Ward and Deva Woodly.

| The 2024 Zürich Lecture Series Book – Releasing this Fall
Volume 11 – The Song of the Soul: The Transpersonal Dimension of Psyche & Sound by Lena Måndotter At the core we are all vibrations, musical compositions in motion, and that is why we resonate in communion with the world of music. The human voice is the only instrument that sounds from within, and our singing voice is deeply connected to heart and soul. In the timbre and tonal nuances of the voice we can perceive subtle soul messages – way beyond words. The sound of the voice mirrors the movements in the depths of psyche, and this touches us profoundly.
To liberate the voice is to liberate psyche. To free the sound is to free the soul. Singing requires deep listening, instinctual attention, pure vocal presence, and the song is a musical alchemical vessel for psychospiritual transformation. Music is a magical magnet, a sacred gift from the Muses, so that our songs may sound the mana of the Mysterion.
Lena Måndotter’s lifelong voyage with soul and song can inspire us all to reclaim our instinctual singing voice. C.G. Jung wrote that “music should be an essential part of every analysis.” This book shows why and is a testament to the healing power of song. |
