Emma Stone in Bugonia

The 11 day Cambridge Film Festival is nearly here!

Hello Friend,

It's a little over a week until the 44th Cambridge Film Festival opens, and we open in gleefully provocative style with BUGONIA, the latest from Yorgos Lanthimos.

The million-dollar question posed on opening night is simple and deliciously unsettling:

Is Emma Stone an alien or not?

As a solitary beekeeper and conspiracy theorist, Jesse Plemons kidnaps a formidable pharma CEO (Emma Stone) to prove his theory, propelling us through a razor-sharp satire of our post-truth moment. Expect dark humour, unnerving conviction and more than a few giggles, as Lanthimos reimagines Korean cult gem SAVE THE GREEN PLANET! with show-stopping performances from its leads.

BUGONIA launches CFF44 on Thursday, 23 October, 20:20, with an additional screening on Sunday, 26 October, 18:15, both at the Arts Picturehouse.

Seats will vanish fast for this one. Join us as we raise the curtain on eleven days of cinema, conversation and community with a film that prods our certainties and delights our senses.

Turn your Friday into a cine-sonic treat with Mark Kermode’s Surround Sound at 18:55 on Friday 24 October in TTP Screen 1.

Britain’s best-known film critic Mark Kermode teams up with award-winning radio producer Jenny Nelson (and a very special guest) for an energetic tour through cinema’s most powerful soundtracks. Packed with anecdotes, favourite tracks and lively debate, the evening is inspired by their new book, Mark Kermode’s Surround Sound: The Stories of Movie Music.

From cult treasures to blockbuster scores, expect sharp insight, infectious enthusiasm and plenty of time for your questions. The evening wraps up with a book signing, where copies will be available for purchase on site.

If you love great films and the music that makes them soar, this is your must-see Festival event.

Cambridge Film Festival is presented by Cambridge Film Trust, a registered charity with a mission to foster film culture and education for the benefit of the public, in Cambridge and the Eastern region but also throughout the UK
