Subject: News Letter

Welcome to a beautiful springtime at the Pines Country Club. Our course is in great condition and, ready to provide good times for all of our players. To make your on course experience more enjoyable this year, the Club House Grill is offering a selection of Breakfast sandwiches to start your morning round. The Club House Grill will also be providing a selection of readymade Deli sandwiches with your favorite cold beverages on the club cart and at the turn to save you time and satiate hunger.

On another note, the Pines is also offering a new member recruiting incentive to its members. For those members who recruit a new member, both you and the new member will receive 5 free cart passes each (limit of one time for members).

On a modernization note, you will notice our new tee markers and some changes to par on several holes on the front nine in particular. These changes were made at the direction of our Course Committee and in consultation with the USGA. The effect will be to speed up play and make our golf experience more enjoyable for all age, gender and skill levels. Our Board and the Course Committee feel certain that these changes are going to make it even more fun to play at the Pines for each of us.

Finally, on another potential modernization note, your Board is considering painting our Club House brick white to match the brick columns on both sides of our entrance roadway. Let us know what you think of that idea when you are in the Pro Shop or run into one of our Board members. We would like to have your feedback because, after all, this is your Country Club.

In the meantime, hit em straight and enjoy springtime at the Pines Country Club. Best,

Steve LaCagnin
Welcome to Spring!!!! Well, it seems as if we’ve finally turned the corner and jumped into golf season with both feet. We built two new forward tees on #5 and #13, and they look AWESOME!! Great job by Mike and the crew!! We’re fortunate to have many fresh members and staff this year, and as the passing days roll us into good weather and our golf season, please remember to keep an eye out for new faces. There’s nothing more welcoming than a warm smile and pleasant hello to make sure our new members feel at home. Please be patient as they learn our driving range, tee time, guest, and starting time policies; you never know…they could be a future playing partner! An inclusive, friendly membership generates a super impression of the club, and enhances the many perks and benefits of our facility. Let’s all try to make a new friend this
year by inviting a new person to join us for a round of golf and many laughs.
May is going to be a busy month with both Member and Special Events, so please be sure to keep up to date by checking our calendar.
We look forward to seeing everyone out
 enjoying The Pines!!!
Season Rules in Effect
Just want to remind everyone of a few procedures that are now in effect with the arrival of the Official Golf Season!!
1) Proper Golf Attire – Shirts with a collar, no denim, soft spikes required
2) Tee Times Required – Please call the pro shop and book your tee time, up to 2 weeks in advance. This also helps keep you informed if there an event that will block the golf course.
3) Replace divots and repair Ball Marks – Fix yours and one other
4) Bunkers - Rake the Bunkers & knock the sand off your shoes before you walk on the green.
5) No FIVESOMES on weekend mornings- Please make arrangements with your group to secure the proper number of players on the weekends. We will not allow 5-somes on the weekends. If you find yourself with an odd number, are new to the club, or are looking for a group to play with, come see us in the pro shop and we’ll get you placed.
Junior Golf & Clinics
Parents and Juniors – Junior Clinics are set and I’m anticipating a fantastic summer of junior golf. I have attached the junior golf application, so check your summer calendar, block off your dates, fill out the application, and bring it in to the pro shop. I look forward to seeing all my little ones, this summer!

PGA Junior League
If you have a junior that is looking for a little more competition, to make a new friend or two, and LOTS of fun, we are also signed up to the PGA Junior League this season. We will be having a Pines TEAM. Each junior will get 2 team shirts (home and away) and a hat, and we will have practices (instruction), as well as some team matches with juniors from Green Hills, Bridgeport, and Stonewall Jackson Resort. We are still finalizing dates and times, but don’t miss out on this new and SUPER FUN program.
Don't Forget

Please remember to make your tee times!!

You may make tee times 2 weeks in advance.

A 2.5% convenience fee does apply.
Golf course reminders going into the spring:

- Divot repair sand should only be used on tees and fairways. This sand contains bentgrass seed, which is maintained on our tees and fairways; but if it’s used in the rough it will contaminate the more desirable long cut turf.

- If a divot is able to be replaced please do so; only use sand when a divot is unusable.

- Please place bunker rakes outside of the bunkers and on the opposite side of the green if possible. This will prevent balls from a bad shot getting trapped between a rake and steep bunker face.

- Repair ball marks. A ball mark repaired immediately in a proper fashion will recover; however, one that is repaired even 30 minutes after it’s created has much less chance of recovery.

Peter Piper Picked a Pack of Perfect Putters
– Which one should I get –
In the mood for a new putter for the 2019 season? With all the different styles and brands, it’s very easy to understand why you may be confused. Maybe this month’s tip can shed some light on which putter will fit your style.
There are basically two styles of putting: the arc putter and the pendulum putter.
The Arc Putter - If you are an arc putter you will tend to putt like you swing. The putter will swing on an arc and rotate around your body with your body being the rotational center. The putter face will stay square to the arc, but it will open and close much like your club face when you are making a full swing. If you putt with this style of putting motion, you will tend to find that a toe weighted putter will help with the rotation of the club face and get the ball started on the correct line.
The Pendulum Putter – If you are a pendulum putter you will tend to putt with more of a straight back and straight through motion. The putter face will stay square to the path, but it will tend to swing de-lofted to lofted during the putting motion. A face balanced putter will help you keep your putter face on line, and help the ball start down the correct line.

Whatever the style that you putt with or prefer, there is a putter for you that can assist you in your style and help you make more putts. Come by the pro shop and see the large selection of putters to try, and I promise you can find one that will help you in your putting style to make more putts.

Good luck,
Russell

The PWGA ladies kicked off their 2019 spring season with dessert and a general meeting, held Tuesday, April 2 at 6:30 pm, in the Pines’ banquet room. Although several of our Snow Birds are still out of town, sixteen members gathered to feast on delicious berry cobbler or brownie (both topped with ice cream) as we attended to upcoming business.

Our annual Women’s Invitational is scheduled for Tuesday, June 11. All women golfers over the age of 12 are welcome to come join us, and share in the camaraderie. This is one of our biggest events, and always a lot of fun! Check out the details on the flyer below.

Our opening day for golf was in early April, which is always hit or miss when it comes to weather! On Tuesday the 9th, a few hardy souls braved the cool, damp elements, eager to get out on the course after our winter hiatus. It felt great to be ‘back in the swing’ again, and left us looking forward to this upcoming year of golf.
