Tossing Yee Sang

Hello Friend,

Another tradition during Chinese New Year (at least in Malaysia and Singapore) is the "yee sang" dish.

"Yee sang" (鱼生) literally means "raw fish". Fish is considered auspicious because its Chinese name (鱼) sounds identical to "abundance" (余).

As per tradition, everyone around the table uses chopsticks to toss yee sang in the air. This ceremony is called "lou sang".

It is believed that the higher you toss, the greater success you will achieve for the rest of the year. :-)

Have you made any Chinese New Year meal plans? If not, you may want to consider Iconic Hotel...

Here is an interesting question for you:
On average, how many times do you "lou sang" every Chinese New Year? :-)

Regards,
Jack Guan
