Auspicious Ingredient For Chinese New Year

There are several types of food ingredients that are considered "good" to eat during Chinese New Year.
One of it is fatt choy (发菜). It is the black, noodle-like jelly in the photo above.
It looks like seaweed, but it is actually not! Fatt choy grows in dry areas like the Gobi Desert in China.
Why do people love to eat fatt choy during Chinese New Year?
Because its name sounds like "striking rich" (发财) in Chinese! :-)
