Meet Erika K. Wesley, Executive Director 


I’m thrilled to sit in the executive director seat of the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County. You all have welcomed me into this creative network with warmth and enthusiasm. Thank you! As we look ahead to more networking opportunities and collaborative experiences, I will hope that you are as inspired and optimistic as I am. Together we will continue to cultivate creativity, expand arts access, and amplify the work of artists and art institutions across Fairfield County. Cheers to new beginnings and fresh starts! 


Erika K. Wesley was named as executive director, effective September 18, 2023. Wesley will work with the network to continue its mission to elevate the arts and culture community of Fairfield County through marketing, capacity building, professional development, and advocacy services. As a nonprofit leader with over 10 years of experience, she will provide strategic, financial, and operational leadership.


Wesley brings her experience in constituency management, program development, and strategic planning to her role. Most recently, she served as the Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion for the Westport Country Playhouse. She has also worked with Fairfield County's Community Foundation and The Carver Foundation of Norwalk.

A longtime Fairfield County resident, Wesley holds a B.A. from University of Connecticut, an M.F.A. from Manhattanville College, and is completing an Ed.D. in organizational leadership from Abilene Christian University. Former Editor of the Manhattanville Review and INKWELL literary journal, she was named the 2014 Manhattanville Writing Alumni Contest winner. She is the author of the book "For the People to Drink" and the creator and host of the "Show of Hands" podcast.

OCTOBER SPOTLIGHT ON ARTS & CULTURE


Our October "Spotlight on Arts & Culture" features Phillipe Lerebours, Creative & Marketing Manager for Jamestown and podcaster at Philippe and Company. In this conversation, Erika will start the show with a story to self by sharing her introduction to art and culture. Philippe will join Erika for the second half of the conversation and the two will discuss how to build and leverage a digital footprint for artistic expression and professional opportunities.

Barnum Museum is honored to have been selected for the New Haven Documentary Film Festival 2023 on October 17th. A screening of "Uncovering the Secrets of an Egyptian Mummy and Coffin: The Quest to Restore Personhood" will be shown at the Program Room/New Haven Free Public Library. This 30-minute film tells the story of "Ipy's mummy" and “Pa-en-bes' coffin,” uncovering the secrets hidden within hieroglyphs, inscriptions, and facial reconstruction. Expert insights and meticulous detail make this film an enthralling experience. TICKETS

Carriage Barn Arts Center announces its 2nd Annual Student Social Justice Art Showcase "Through Your Looking Glass," in partnership with S.T.A.R. & The Glass House. Fairfield County Students (grade school through college) are invited to participate in this art showcase on social justice topics that matter to them and their work will be showcased at the Carriage Barn Arts Center October 28 - November 11, 2023.

Greater Bridgeport Symphony has engaged Eduardo Leandro as their conductor this season. Born in Brazil and recently made a U.S. citizen, Maestro Eduardo -- a percussionist as well as conductor -- will be bringing new rhythms to GBS this season, and has already begun working with students in the area. Mark Halstead and Phyllis Cortese have also joined GBS in leadership roles.

INTEMPO has been presenting a unique, cultural, and fun concert series, "Sounds from Latino America," in collaboration with the Darien Arts Center, St Mark’s Episcopal Church of New Canaan, and First Congregational Church of Greenwich. Bringing awareness about the presence of Hispanic culture, music, and immigrants in CT, this award-winning Stamford-based nonprofit offered three free concerts to bring awareness about Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated across the country from September 15- October 15th and commemorating the independence day of various Latin American countries.

KEYS (Kids Empowered by Your Support) welcomes New Canaan resident, Greg Smith, to the their Board of Directors. Smith has worked in the total rewards field for nearly 25 years, as an executive compensation consultant at Mercer's San Francisco office between 1998-2005, and for the last 18 years at PepsiCo, where he is currently Vice President, Global Benefits. Greg is also on the board at Green Chimney's School and is a volunteer at Feeding Westchester and the Fairfield County Food Bank. KEYS provides free in-school, virtual, and ensemble music instrument instruction to Bridgeport students.

Museum of Darien is pleased to announce the selection of a new Assistant Director, Emily Koch. In this role, Koch will provide general support to the Executive Director in the areas of operations, management, marketing and communications, and volunteer oversight. Koch has experience at the Royal Academy of Arts in London as Manager of Patrons and holds a Masters in Art Business at Sotheby’s Institute of Art. She additionally has significant experience with fundraising, leadership and management skills that has included positions at the Bowman Sculpture Gallery, The Victoria and Albert Museum and Sotheby’s Auction House in London.

The Glass House announced that Kirsten Reoch has accepted the role as Executive Director after Greg Sages announced in March that he was stepping down. Kirsten previously worked at the Park Avenue Armory in New York City for 25 years, directing the renovation and restoration of that landmark building for arts-related uses. She worked with the board, the production team, the architects and conservators, experience that makes her a good fit at The Glass House. With a background is in historic preservation, she started her career in the field right after college. Her first job was for the National Trust for Historic Preservation. READ MORE

The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk has won the Association of Zoos & Aquarium’s (AZA) highest Education Award for its Maritime Summer Academy, a summer school program developed in partnership with Norwalk Public Schools. This award recognizes its innovative design and its ability to promote conservation knowledge, attitudes, and behavior. AZA represents more than 235 facilities in the United States and overseas, which collectively draw more than 200 million visitors every year. AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums meet the highest standards in animal care and welfare.

The Westport Library is holding a fundraiser on October 25th to support the expansion of their employment and job training program to their online sales business, where their inclusive workforce can develop computer and technical skills. "ChapterTwo: Spanning From Retail to E-tail" will be held at the Westport Library Trefz Forum.

Westport Country Playhouse hosted “An Evening with Justin Paul & Friends with Kelli O’Hara and James Naughton.” This one-night-only benefit concert featured Tony, Oscar, and Grammy award-winning composer, Justin Paul headlined the fundraising event. The Westport native is best known for his work on “La La Land,” “Dear Evan Hansen,” and “The Greatest Showman.” Paul’s other credits include television’s “Only Murders in the Building.” Other appearances throughout the evening included Tony Award winners Kelli O’Hara (“The King and I”) and James Naughton (“City of Angels,” “Chicago”). They were joined by Greg Naughton, founding member of folk-rock group The Sweet Remains.

ARTS & ECONOMIC PROSPERITY 6 NATIONAL RELEASE DATE SET FOR OCT 12


Save the date!  Americans for the Arts is excited to announce the national launch date of Arts & Economic Prosperity 6. AEP6 is the national study that demonstrates that the nonprofit arts and culture industry is an economic driver — an industry that supports jobs, generates government revenue, and is the cornerstone of tourism. The virtual event will be freely available to all.
