Subject: Why Ketone Could Boost Performance “Unlike Anything We’ve Ever Seen”

Hi Friend,

Scientists are getting ready to rip up the diet books. How so? The guys in the lab coats believe they’ve just discovered a fourth type of fuel for humans.

As we all know, the food we consume contains either carbohydrate, fats or proteins — or some combination of the above. These three macronutrients, in very simple terms, are then broken down to fuel the body for energy.

Simple.

At least, that was the common wisdom. Until recently.

Yet now it appears science is about to rewrite dietary nutrition by introducing a fourth element into the mix. And not only that, but this ‘fourth macronutrient’ could boost athletic performance unlike anything we’ve ever seen.

The supercharged source of fuel are called ketones.
A San Francisco-based startup, in partnership with Oxford University, recently launched a sports drink made of pure ketone ester. And their claim? This miracle in a bottle can help people harness athletic ability.

Geoff Woo is the CEO of the San Francisco startup. His company’s product, backed by $60 million worth of research, is a 2.2 ounce bottle of Ketone.

With so much riding on this investment, you would expect the cofounder to be concerned. Not a bit of it. When the researchers put the product through its paces in the laboratory, it blew all expectations out of the water.

Ketone Research

Brianna Stubbs, a postgraduate student at Oxford University, lead the research. Here is what happened:

In a study published in 2016 in the journal Cell Metabolism, the ketone drink was given to a group of elite cyclists. Performance levels were then compared to one group given a carbohydrate-rich drink and one group given a fat-rich drink.

The findings were startling…

The high-performance cyclists went 400 meters further than the rest of the field.

In the realm of sports science, these results are hugely significant. So much so, that these figures prompted Kieran Clarke, a professor of biochemistry at Oxford, to state such a performance boost is “unlike anything we’ve ever seen before.”

This is exciting news.

And while it’s too early to say if ketone will mark a new frontier in health and fitness, the future certainly looks promising.

Until next time,
