Hi Friend,
“Go to work on an egg” was an advertising slogan used by the UK’s Egg Marketing Board during the 1950s. The TV ads starred British comedian Tony Hancock and actress Patricia Hayes, and their message was a simple one: having an egg for breakfast was the best way to start the working day!
Oh, how times have changed…
In 2007, plans to rebroadcast the original television adverts were shelved by the Broadcast Advertising Clearance Centre (BACC). And the reason for the objection? In their misguided wisdom, the BACC observed that the adverts did not suggest a varied diet.
Their decision is a disappointing one because science has since shown how eggs aren’t the enemy many people in the food industry believe.
Whenever folks are presented with the prospect of eating lots of eggs, they commonly come back with the dog-tired cliché: “Eggs cause high cholesterol!” Yet the plain truth paints an entirely different picture.
It just so happens, eggs are good for you, as the cholesterol found in these protein-packed powerhouses help to form hormones — including sex hormones — while feeding the brain and building the body.
It’s a myth that eggs cause high cholesterol. Instead, the egg’s built-in safeguard, lecithin, literally shunts any excess cholesterol away. This is one reason why you shouldn’t toss your yolks — because lecithin is typically found in the yellow, you are doing yourself a disservice by dumping this valuable foodstuff.
And that’s not all. In the yolks, you’ll also find B-vitamins, A, D and essential minerals...
In other words, ALL the magic ingredients that help build your body.
So what’s the best way of scarfing your eggs?
Hard-boiled is our go-to favourite.
Simply boil your eggs for 20 minutes the night before, let those suckers cool, then pop them in your refrigerator. The result? High-quality muscle building protein at your fingertips.
Until next time,
Squat for Glory!
