| Hi Friend,
The Eagle has landed! Yes! The must-see movie of the year, "Eddie the Eagle" is now in cinemas.
For those unfamiliar with the film, "Eddie" tells the true story of mild-mannered Edward Edwards, a humble plumber from Cheltenham who dreams of becoming Britain's first-ever ski jumping Olympian.
This plucky Brit with the bottle-thick spectacles would ignore all stumbles and set-backs - of which there were many - and charge on cheerfully against all odds to become a hero.
As a physically crippled child with his leg in callipers, Eddie doesn't meekly accept that competing in the Olympics might be beyond him (there would be no medals to hang around the young hopeful's neck). Instead, underdog Eddie finds victory through achieving his dream by his own sheer hard work.
But what does any of this have to do with your strength training?
Well, quite a lot, as it happens.
Just like Eddie, you claim victory every time you meet your challenges in the gym head-on. Winning medals isn't what counts. Facing your training demons with grit and steely determination is what really matters.
This is true for you every time you step under your barbell. Your character reveals itself during every stumble and painful set-back.
And it's this never-say-die attitude that will see you overcome all obstacles.
You see, mindset is everything. If you desire to be bigger and stronger more than anything, then nothing will stop you from accomplishing your goal. For sure, how far you travel in your quest ultimately depends on your genes. But how long it takes you to get there depends on your mindset.
It's a fact that most of us will miss out on life's big prizes like Olympic medals. But that's okay. You can still take delight in life's small pleasures like putting more iron on your bar and pushing yourself to higher personal bests.
Just remember, that the mind is the most important tool in your training...
Make your mind your training partner, and just like hero ski jumper Eddie, you can fly.Until next time,
Squat for Glory!
