Subject: Are You Doing Isometrics All Wrong?

Hi Friend,

Nothing beats isometrics training for strength building. But don't just take my word for it...
  • Author and coach Bill Starr called them "the ultimate exercise" and used them to push and pull his way to greatness,
  • In the world of swimming, Indiana University students smashed records almost at will,
  • In track and field, Jim Beatty broke the world record indoor mile,
  • In competitive weight lifting, Bill March won everything in sight - at the 1963 Philadelphia Open, a world record inevitably followed.
Impressive, huh?

For sure, results like that are game-changers, which is why we feature isometrics in our bestselling titles, "6 Seconds to Strength" and "Ninja Strength Secrets."

But here's the thing… there is a very good chance you are doing your isometrics all wrong.

How so?

Well, if you're like most folks, you will tag your isometric holds onto the end of your workout.

And while that is okay, this practice is less than optimal.

Here is what coach Chad Waterbury has to say about timing your isometrics.

"In order to induce the highest muscle building stimulus, you must do isometrics when your muscles aren't fatigued. That's when you can recruit the largest motor units that have the most growth potential."

Makes sense, don't you agree? Which is why performing your isometrics at the end of your workout when you're at your weakest, provides you with less than stellar results.

So what's the most effective way to utilise isometrics?

That's simple: start your sets with an iso contraction when your muscles are fresh.

Not only will this recruit the largest motor units, but it will pre-fatigue the muscle fibres thereby ramping up the intensity.

Like Chad says, "It's the combination of the squeeze followed by full reps that makes this muscle builder so effective."

Until next time,

Squat for Glory!
