April 2024
From the Executive Director's Corner
We are thrilled to be celebrating Financial Literacy Month once again this April. As always, it is a fantastic opportunity to join together with other organizations across the country to promote quality, effective financial education and empowerment. As a part of our efforts this month, we are looking forward to attending the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy’s Annual Awards Luncheon on April 18 in Washington, DC honoring individuals and organizations making a significant impact in financial education – we hope to see some of you there!

I am also pleased to share that an interview I conducted with Raven Santana for the New Jersey Business Beat on NJ PBS just aired over the weekend! We talk about the work we do at the AFSA Education Foundation and the impact of MoneySKILL. You can watch the interview for yourself here. MoneySKILL has historically had a high level of engagement from teachers in New Jersey and we are proud to be able to share our successes!

We have a number of new resources and announcements to share with you all (including a link to access the recording of our joint webinar with the National Math Foundation in February), so I encourage you to continue reading on for more updates!

Sincerely,

Rhonda Ashburn
Executive Director
AFSA Education Foundation

Ask MoneySKILL!
Can I transfer a student in my class to another MoneySKILL instructor’s class?

Yes. In the “Students” section of your class, there is a “Transfer” link to the right of each student listed on your class roster. Clicking this link will allow you to enter another MoneySKILL instructor’s email address. They will be emailed a link to accept the transfer and reassign the student to their class.
Is there a user guide for MoneySKILL instructors outlining how to set up and manage classes?

Yes. A MoneySKILL Instructor Guide can be found in the “Resources” section of your account dashboard or you can access it here. AFSA Education Foundation staff are also available to provide virtual demonstrations and answer questions and can be reached at info@moneyskill.org.
Is there a way to allow my students to retake a module?

Yes. When setting up a MoneySKILL course, you can specify a “Module Retake Percent” – a minimum quiz grade threshold students have to meet for each module. Students who do not meet the minimum grade will be automatically required to retake the module. Additionally, instructors have the option to manually enable and disable retakes for specific modules in the “Students” section (there is a “Retakes” link next to each student listed on your class roster).
Announcements
Webinar Recording Available:  Back in February, the AFSA Education Foundation joined together with the National Math Foundation to lead a webinar titled Math Matters in Life: Personal Finances & Future Success. The webinar explored the intersection of math and personal finance and included a panel discussion with Dr. Barb O’Neill of Money Talk and Laura Levine of the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy. You can access the webinar recording here using passcode UnU8xJ.6.
New Events Page on Our Website:  We recently launched a new Events page on our website. This page includes information about a variety of national awareness campaigns that highlight specific personal finance education needs, such as protecting yourself against identity theft, planning for retirement, understanding student loans, and more. These campaigns are opportunities to participate in a national conversation around the importance of financial education and often offer educational toolkits and additional learning and teaching resources. To learn more, check out the new page on our website (here), which will be updated monthly.
MoneySKILL Virtual Workshops:  Would you like to learn more about how to integrate MoneySKILL into your personal finance course? Do you know other teachers that might benefit from knowing about MoneySKILL? AFSA Education Foundation staff are available to schedule virtual workshops and MoneySKILL demonstrations upon request! Please reach out to us at info@moneyskill.org if you are interested in scheduling a session.
