Here are some ways you can help your body control your allergy symptoms:
Cleanse your nose: by using a neti pot or something similar, you can help clear your nasal mucus membranes from any pollen that has adhered there.
Try apple cider vinegar: it helps break up mucus and supports lymphatic drainage. Try mixing 1-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with a glass of water and lemon juice.
Clean your house: regular house cleaning can help clear allergy triggers and relieve your symptoms. It’s important to clean bookshelves, vents, and other places where pollen can collect. It’s important to change air filters often, as well as vacuum carpets and change pillowcase at least once a week (allergens can transfer from your hair to your pillow on a nightly basis).
Detox: allergies are often worsened by toxins within the body. Detox your body by eliminating fried foods, sugar, alcohol, and other toxins in your diet; these tips help support your liver, which is a great mediator of inflammation in the body.
Add essential oils: essential oils can help fight inflammation and boost the immune response, so try adding them to a bath*, cup of tea*, massage oil*, or a diffuser. Oils like peppermint, basil, eucalyptus, and tea tree are great examples to try!
*remember to use high quality oils that are safe to ingest and/or are safe to use diluted on your skin if you choose to enjoy them this way.
Manage stress: stress hormones wreak havoc on the body and take their toll on the immune system, making seasonal allergies even worse. Try managing your stress with meditation, avoiding overcommitting your schedule, and taking the time for self-care (i.e. chiropractic and acupuncture!).
