September is back-to-school month… or at least, it usually is. I suppose we started a little earlier this year! And with school comes education. Education is something I’ve always loved—not just learning for myself, but sharing what I learn with others.
When you come for acupuncture, your treatment doesn’t always involve just needles and then sending you on your way. I love taking the time to educate my patients and share what I’ve learned throughout my years as an acupuncturist, as well as from my previous studies in holistic nutrition. And I’m always learning something new myself.
I regularly take courses and workshops to develop and expand my knowledge in areas such as human kinetics, fascial rejuvenation, prenatal care, fertility, menopause, and so much more. Sometimes that means a handout to take home, a quick email with a few tips, or simply a conversation during your treatment about what might support you on your health journey.
But over a year ago, I decided I wanted to take that love of education a little further. I started offering workshops where I can share some of the things I’m passionate about—from Traditional Chinese Medicine and nutrition throughout the seasons, to simple at-home techniques that allow you to bring a little more holistic care into your daily or weekly routine.
I co-host these workshops with a fellow like-minded human who has spent years teaching yoga and, like me, has always been curious about holistic health and wellness.
We’ve held several workshops on facial and fascial rejuvenation, where I’ve taught participants how to properly perform a full gua sha and cupping routine while taking the lymphatic system into consideration.
Last year, we also started offering seasonally inspired full-day retreats, combining education with hands-on experiences. We explored how the changing seasons can influence our bodies and what foods may best support us during those times, along with body cupping, gua sha, herbal foot soaks, nutrition advice, and full-body lymphatic routines. I love that these workshops give people something they can actually take home and incorporate into their own lives.
And speaking of the lymphatic system… I’m currently working on a half-day workshop all about lymphatic health and wellness. There’s also another workshop in the works exploring stress, cortisol and their effects on the body. I love learning. But honestly, I think I love sharing what I learn just as much.
This September, I’ll also be joining nutritionist Laura Duff for a free seminar at The Natural Food Pantry on September 22nd. I love collaborating with other like-minded health practitioners because there is always something new to learn from one another. (More information below )
So, with September bringing us back-to-school vibes and the kids heading back to the classroom, let’s remember that learning doesn’t stop when we leave school. There is always something new to discover, explore, question—and hopefully, share.
And I intend to keep doing all four.
